427 and Counting: Pastrnak Pulls Even With Bergeron as the Bruins Keep Finding Ways to Win
Saturday’s 6-4 win over San Jose was the eighth straight game with a point for Boston. It also put the captain alongside a franchise legend.
Somewhere in the chaos of Saturday’s third period at TD Garden, David Pastrnak did something quieter than the scoreboard suggested. His tying goal, scored seconds after he left the penalty box, was the 427th of his career. That ties Patrice Bergeron for third in Bruins history.
Ahead of him now: only Phil Esposito (459) and Johnny Bucyk (545).
The game
Boston beat the Sharks 6-4 after a third period that saw four Bruins goals and a late push from San Jose. Pastrnak scored twice. Rookie James Hagens, 19, gave Boston the lead with his fourth of the season. Fraser Minten and Will Borgen, the latter with under 30 seconds left, finished it.
The Bruins are 9-2-1 and have earned a point in eight consecutive games.
What the streak says
- Boston has scored six goals in a game four times this season.
- The scoring is spread out: a captain, a teenager, a defenseman and a depth forward all found the net Saturday.
- Three days earlier, Michael DiPietro posted his first NHL shutout. The team is winning high-scoring and low-scoring games alike.
What’s next
The Bruins visit Carolina on Tuesday with a chance at a 10th win before the calendar flips to November.
