Biography

In the summer of 1981, Alan Lazowski launched what would become LAZ Parking with a small loan from his grandfather, parking cars at a single restaurant lot in Hartford, Connecticut, while attending the University of Connecticut. By the end of that first summer he was overseeing five locations and thirty employees. He went on to co-found LAZ Parking with lifelong friends Jeff Karp and Michael Harth, and today serves as the company’s Chairman, CEO and Founder.

Under his leadership, LAZ Parking has grown into the largest tech-enabled parking management, transportation and mobility company in North America, with more than 21,000 employees and over $3 billion in managed revenue. Lazowski has built the company around a “people first” philosophy — LAZ Parking’s mission statement leads with “Create opportunities for our employees” — and he splits his time between the company’s Hartford headquarters and its field locations across the country. His enduring advice to employees: “Never Ever Give Up!”

He holds honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Hartford and Goodwin University, and in 2021 was named the National Parking Association’s “Innovator of the Year.” He has been recognized among the Hartford Business Journal’s Power 50.

Contributions to Society

Alan Lazowski is the son of Holocaust survivors Rabbi Philip Lazowski and Ruth Lazowski — his father chronicled their story in the autobiography Faith and Destiny. Feeling a deep obligation to give back, Lazowski was appointed to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council in 2015, serves on the Museum’s Education Committee, and received the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s National Leadership Award in 2016; he was honored again at the Museum’s “What You Do Matters” virtual tribute in October 2020, recognizing National Leadership Award honorees of the preceding decade.
