Biography

Robert L. Beal led The Beal Companies (later Related Beal) as one of Greater Boston’s most prolific real estate developers, shaping the city’s skyline across decades of commercial and residential development. He announced his retirement as president in 2016 after leading the firm for over 40 years, and remained deeply engaged in Boston civic life until his death in February 2020 at age 78.

Accomplishments

Widely known as “Mr. Boston” for his outsized role in both business and philanthropy, Beal was remembered by civic leaders including former Boston Mayor Martin Walsh for his contributions to the city’s growth and its nonprofit community.
